Journal #2

Today we untied a human knot, spoke about the importance of listening to all group members' ideas and went out into the field to observe the plot of land in question.

It seems impossible but we have to observe, collect and organize the data effectively.

I've thought I'd never live to see the day that a group of students escape the mesmerizing task of escaping the human knot. Today is that day! Moments after the MME students entered the classroom we were asked to clear the center of the room. We were then split into groups of 10. The goal: Escape the human knot. At first the task seemed awkward seeing that I haven't yet adjusted to the project-based class, which is a huge variation from a typical math class where you sit down copy the work and hear others consistently puzzled with the equations, graphs, etc.

The task really taught me something, honestly. Especially a couple words Mr. Brown said. "You're so used to doing things on your own that even when you know what to do you decide to wait a while while others screw up and then finally state your opinion." The words are contradictory and clearly true; for my claim anyhow. I saw a pattern that could be used but because others were already discussing it, I shut my mouth and just agreed to what the others were saying. The pattern I had in mind was proof to work and because of my insolence, I let it go. Interesting lesson. Many more are likely to come...

we must listen to each other and corouporate. we all have to try to figure it out. i learned we have to listen first and then react

When faced with a task that seems impossible, effective groups must learn to listen and cooperate with each other in order to come up with ideas. The groups must observe what they have to do first and then come up with examples on it. Everyone has to cooperate with each other or else the not between you wil get more tangled.

When faced with a task that seems impossible, effective groups must work together. We all were faced with the challenge of a human knot. The first time my group members and i tried to approach the problem we failed because everyone was just trying to get their own thoughts out and not listen to each other. Me personally i was just going to do what ever they told me. On the other hand, when we did work togethewr as a group, not only did we finish first but we also mad two circles in the process. This is similar to the main project because looking at it now, it seems impossible. But just like the human knot, when we work as a team we can do it.

to day in class we did the human knot. this is something that you needed to use group work to do. my group had a little problem at first. we couldent find the way to get out of the knot. we tried several times. but finially at the end we acomplished it. i learned we need to listin to every body in the group to make this work. i think we did this because when we are doing this project we need to listin to each group member and take what every body syas.

When faced with a task that seems impossible, effective groups must communicate and work together. So that everyone knows what to do and when to do it. The task will become much easier once everyone knows their role in the task provided.

When faced with a task that seems impossible, effective groups must learn how to compromise, and learn how to listen to each other.

Today when doing the human knot, I observed that in both teams, they were having a really hard time in the beginning. ( I was the photographer) Everyone would voice out their opinion, and stick to it, rather then listening to the other person, and agreeing with another person.

After a few tries everyone started compromising, and listening to each other. They started working togehter to untangle themselves. One group was also encouraging each other not to leave eath others hands, when they were twisting and turning.

When we were divided into teams, and started our human knot, there was no compromise what so ever. Who ever yelled the loudest to get out attentions were probably named the 'directions leader' for that given time.

It was a fiasco. yells of "LETS DO IT THIS WAY!" or "THATS NOT THE RIGHT WAY!" just confused everyone. We tried many different ways to get through but we failed at all of them.

Though, after some while we were given some help by Mr.Brown and we learned to listen to eachother and just try to all come up with one decision at a time. We learned that compromise was the key to untie the human knot.

When faced with a task that seems impossible, effective groups must be innovative and create solutions. In addition to that, they should give into consideration of what others say.

it is very important to listen when in a group of people. lets say its a fire drill and everybody is talking but its a real fire and nobody can hear the person stuck in the classroom. Now listining sounds important.

listen to each others ideas and communicate well. We need to listen to each other so that we can complete what we need to do.

When faced with a task that seems impossible, effective groups must take charge becuase if we all talk at once nothing will get done. For example, in class the other day while doing the human knot, at first everyone started yelling and nothing got done, so we all tried to calm down and each say something when told to speak. This really worked because my group was the first to complete the task of the human knot.

Group members must listen to each other and find out an idea to make the impossible possible.

When faced with a task that seems impossible, effective groups must listen to one another. You see, there were two different groups that was in a human knot. Team A, the group I was in, untied ourselves into two circles (wierd), before the other team. The reason why we completed the task first, was because we allowed each other to talk one at a time, and we tried out their suggestion. on the other hand, I observed team B doing the complete oppitsite. They had great ideas, but they all talked at once. so the next time they're faced with an impossible task, they should listen to each other.

When faced with a task that seems impossible, effective groups must work together. You must communicate and learn each others strengths and weaknesses. You mst also compromise and take turns when speaking. i think that if we can do this then we should be able to complete the main project

When faced with a task that seems impossible, effective groups must stop, look and listen then contribute

Well uhmm I guess my comment i had wroten before didnt go through so i have to write something else .....

i think effective groups must take turns and listen to eachother to make the hard task work.
